Ekofisk 2/4 J
- Transport and process platform
- Installed in 1997
- Began exporting oil on 18 August 1998 as part of the Ekofisk II project
All production from the Ekofisk Complex and the field’s satellite platforms goes to this processing and transport platform before gas is piped to Emden in Germany and oil to Teesside in the UK. As the central installation in the Ekofisk II development, 2/4 J receives production from the main field as well as Eldfisk and Valhall. Gas and oil also arrive from Gyda and Ula respectively for onward transmission to Emden and Teesside, and Tor output was handled until 2015.
Oil, gas and water are separated on 2/4 J, with the hydrocarbons pressurised at the start of their journey to Emden and Teesside. Equipment is also installed for gas injection into the reservoir.
The platform has the capacity to handle 21.1 million cubic metres of gas and 350 000 barrels of oil per day, as well as 90 000 daily barrels of oil from Eldfisk in a bypass. Daily water treatment capacity is 150 000 barrels.
Two compressors on 2/4 J ensure that gas from the Greater Ekofisk Area reaches European markets through the pipeline to Emden. They are driven by two 29 000 hp GE turbines.
