Norway’s first drilling rig
Half the hull of Ocean Viking was built by Rosenberg mek Verksted in Stavanger, and the rest by Danish shipbuilder Burmeister & Wain in Copenhagen.
These two components were then towed to Nylands Verksted in Oslo for assembly by the Aker group. It was named there in September 1966.
The Phillips and Petronord exploration groups shared the use of this drilling rig.
