Ocean Viking completes discovery well
The Ocean Viking rig drilled exploration wells during 1972 in the north-western corner of block 2/7, which became known as South-West Ekofisk.
Although discoveries were made, they ranked as relatively small. Another appraisal well was drilled on the eastern flank, but proved to be dry.
It was not until October 1973 that Zapata Explorer drilled in the north-western corner of South-West Ekofisk and finally made a discovery. Renamed Edda, this structure was declared commercial and came on stream on 1 December 1973.
