Waterflooding
Waterflooding – also known as water injection – is one possible way to achieve improved oil recovery (IOR) from a reservoir. Its wide use reflects the frequent availability of cheap water in large quantities. Seawater is used offshore, usually after treatment.

Advanced reservoir monitoring in place
A total of 4 000 sensors spread at 50-metre intervals along 240 kilometres of cable were installed on the seabed over the Ekofisk field from March-September 2010.
